Shincheonji leader cleared of blocking South Korea’s coronavirus prevention effort

The elderly leader of a secretive religious sect at the centre of South Korea’s early coronavirus outbreak was cleared Wednesday of hindering the government’s Covid-19 prevention efforts, reports said.

Lee Man-hee was convicted, however, of embezzling billions of won from his organisation and given a suspended prison sentence.
